Once the wood is cut from the tree it is in a sawn state, meaning it is prone to splintering and has a rough appearance. Before we manufacture any of our quality gates or garden furniture we need to ensure that the timber is smooth and splinter free. The sawn wood is put through the planer or four cutter machine which ensures all four sides are smoothed or planed. This process also helps to bring out the grain of the wood. Once the timber is planed or PAR planed all round, it is then easier to handle and looks fantastic so is perfect for building. It can also be painted with ease to a colour of your choosing, which makes untreated timber cladding a good option for people undertaking a DIY project.
We also go one step forward and machine our own tongue & groove boards. The timber is planed all round and then the tongues and grooves are added. Because we machine them ourselves we can ensure the quality of the tongue and groove process It also means that if you buy more at a later date it is sure to fit your existing purchase. Tongue and Groove can also be used as a form of cladding.
Our planed timbers are available untreated and therefore are best used internally unless you treat them with a good quality timber stain or paint system.
